Ecommerce Website Builders

Shopify vs Wix (Nov 2021). Which one is the absolute best?

You are likely looking for an ecommerce platform if you have a great idea for a product or a store that could be more visible online. There are many high-quality options available (hence the Wix vs Shopify Comparison). This allows you to try each one and choose which one you like best.

Shopify leads the pack in popularity. However, Wix is also a popular choice, with over 68,000,000 users using the Wix platform. While this doesn’t mean that Wix users will all be selling products online, it is worth noting that WIX provides ecommerce tool that can compete with Shopify.

Shopify is an ecommerce giant that provides everything businesses need to sell online. Shopify is used by more than 600,000 businesses worldwide. Wix, on the other hand, is all about easy-to-use drag-and-drop site building and simplicity for beginners.

Wix is a great website builder that will help you get your site up and running quickly. Shopify, on the other hand can handle larger sales and has access to everything, from dropshipping to social media integrations.

Both Shopify and Wix offer various features to help you get started in website building. Shopify is for advanced users, while Wix will be more suitable for beginners.

Are you still unsure? Don’t worry. It can be difficult to choose the right ecommerce platform.

This is why I am going to compare Shopify vs Wix based on features, cost and ease-of-use. Continue reading to learn whether Shopify is the right choice for you online store.

Shopify vs Wix: The Main Features

It’s all about choosing the type of store that you want to rank on Google in the battle between Wix & Shopify. Wix, like WordPress, is a website builder. Shopify, however, is an eCommerce heavyweight.

Basic online shop functionality

Wix and Shopify have some basic features but Shopify is the clear leader in online selling. Shopify has amazing store management features and clean product pages.

Shopify and Wix both offer a wide range of templates, both paid and free. These templates are also easy to use with simple builders that will make it quick and easy for you to launch your website. Shopify, however, is more focused on helping you to sell than Wix.

Inventory Management

While Wix is very simple when it comes inventory management, Shopify makes it easy. You can access a product creation page and inventory tab, as well as an area to store your gift cards from the same module.

Recent updates have made it easier to locate products with the search bar at top of the dashboard. It allows you to enter any keywords (such as for a collection or a piece inventory, customer, discount, etc.) and it will deliver the results you are looking for without you having to search everywhere.

Shopify offers everything you need to manage inventory. Shopify gives you everything you need to drive customers to your online shopping cart. This includes an inventory solution that lets you upload multiple products or one product, and stock management tools.

Wix, on the other hand, is designed for smaller online shops. Wix is a smaller alternative to Shopify, as everything from the app marketplace to inventory management are more restricted than Shopify.

Coupons and Discount Codes

Shopify and Wix both offer coupon codes and discounts without additional charges. You can easily distinguish the two because you can choose which products are eligible for discounts on each platform. There isn’t much work required for either.

Product types

Shopify and Wix both allow you to sell many products online. An inventory can be packed with everything, from digital products to physical products and services.

Wix will require you to have an app in order to sell your services. Shopify, on the other hand requires third-party integration to sell digital products. Shopify allows you to access apps to do everything, from email marketing to selling digital products.

Product presentation

Your sales will rise if your products are more appealing and engaging. Shopify makes it easy to create amazing products.

Ecommerce stores can be updated in real time with unlimited products. You can also add variants to different items using the Shopify app. To get basic business tools such as product zoom and video, you will need to add plugin options.

Your products can shine on Wix too. You can also use the built-in video functionality, just like BigCommerce. There are also various zoom options. Wix is clearly ahead of Shopify in the battle for the best online shopping platform.

Wix has also added new customization options to their tools for checkout design in 2018.

Payment gateway options

Shopify offers over 70 payment gateways, including PayPal and Stripe, Authorize.net, PayMill, and Authorize.net. Wix has seen a lot of improvements over the years and now offers 50 payment gateways, including PayPal, Stripe and Square, Wirecard and Braintree.

Shopify is the clear winner in the Wix vs Shopify battle. With more than 100 payment gateways available, Shopify can cover almost all areas of checkout. Shopify offers more advanced features, such as Shopify payments. This eliminates transaction fees.

Wix supports traditional payment options, such as Stripe and PayPal. It is lacking some features compared to Shopify. Wix does not offer this feature. Shopify, however, allows you to create tax rules and shipping rates per product. Global shipping fees are not available.

Templates and themes

Shopify themes are specifically designed for ecommerce businesses. The Shopify theme editor is very flexible. You can hide sections in the theme editor and they will not be removed. This allows you to customize certain sections without needing to replicate the theme on a staging server.

Wix offers many online store themes but not as many as Shopify. The company is creating some beautiful online store themes that are focused on specific niches, such as furniture and jewelry.

Shopify offers a variety of themes that have been created by independent designers. This makes the ecommerce functionality of Shopify’s templates impressive. Shopify even allows you to ensure that your themes are mobile-responsive.

Shopify themes can be more expensive than Squarespace and Wix.

Wix, on the other hand has many templates it offers. You can even find a section specifically for online shops. Wix will let you choose a template and you are stuck with it. Shopify allows you to rebrand your store at any time you like.

Abandoned cart and tax

Shopify and Wix both offer specific features for each industry, making it easier to design your online store.

Shopify comes with many additional features. All plans, even the free trial, include tools to help you update your Shopify POS including discount codes, abandoned cart recovery and multi-channel integration. You will feel like a business VIP when you use the tools provided by Shopify to enhance your ecommerce website.

Wix, on the other hand offers abandoned carts via a third-party application. Shopify makes it much easier to obtain a high-quality tool. Shopify Plus can be used to access automated tax calculations, filing processes, and other tools. Wix makes it difficult to manage taxes.

Wix allows you to enable or disable taxes, add tax to your product prices, as well as include tax in them. To help you with taxes, however, it is a good idea to install the Avalara app.

Apps and Add-ons

Although the Wix app store has many cool integrations, not all are suited for online stores. You will need to sort through those that might be more helpful for brick and mortar shops.

If you are looking for targeted ecommerce apps , Shopify is your best choice.

To run an online store that is successful, you need more than just a domain name and point of sale technology. Integration of apps into your store builder can help you drive more sales from your target market.

Shopify’s App store comes with all pricing plans and allows you to expand your store in any way you like. Dropshipping, product reviews and customer conversions are all possible.

Wix, on the other hand can’t compare Shopify when it is comes to ecommerce-specific apps. While the Wix Adi tool is great and offers many building options, it is not as extensible with apps.

Multilingual capabilities

Wix offers a powerful multilingual application that allows you to convert your website into any language. This is an area where Shopify has struggled, although a few themes can be used to support more languages. Wix is the clear winner in this area.

Marketing Features

Shopify heavily relies on third-party apps for its marketing. This allows businesses a lot more flexibility but it can be difficult to compare Shopify and Wix when you take into account all the other apps.

Wix, on the other hand has something more than other tools like Weebly. Wix Ascend, an all-in one marketing tool that you can subscribe to, allows you to manage all aspects of your marketing from one place.

Integration of social media

Shopify is better than Wix in that you can sell your products through multiple channels. You can also combine your shop with Amazon, Facebook, Instagram, eBay, and Amazon.

Email campaigns

Wix Ascend allows you to create email campaigns that support customer nurturing and sales. It offers three campaigns per month via email, without the need for an Ascend subscription.

Shopify allows you create email campaigns directly from your admin page. However, if you want to get the most out of Shopify’s features, you might consider integrating an app.

SEO Tools

Both Shopify and Wix have SEO settings, making it difficult to choose a winner. You have two options: either the system will create metadata automatically for you or you can manually enter it. These systems notify search engines whenever new content is created.

Website builders should have search engine optimization as a tool. Shopify and Wix both make it simple to add SEO to your website. Both tools allow you to add and modify meta titles and descriptions, as well as customize URL slugs for better ranking.

Shopify and Wix allow you to add alt text to images so Google understands what they are about. Further support can be obtained with best-practice SEO prompts.

Blogging Features

Although I believe Shopify offers a better content management area, Shopify and Wix both have integrated solutions to meet your blogging needs.

The best thing about blogging in Wix? It offers a drag and drop design area.

Wix makes it easy to create beautiful blogs. Wix’s archive functionality is not always easy to use, which is a huge problem. Shopify isn’t very good in the blogging space, as it doesn’t have built-in analytics or a search feature.

Analytics and Reporting

It is important to keep track of your website’s performance. This helps you see what’s working and not so that you can plan for steady growth. Wix requires an eCommerce plan in order to make use of Google analytics.

Shopify provides analytics for all plans.

Shopify is a bit more advanced than Wix in the battle for Shopify vs Wix. Shopify has built-in analytics tools. Everything can be tracked, from stock levels to customer behavior and conversions.

Customization capabilities

Shopify is always open to developers who wish to implement their code. You will need to be able to use Shopify’s Liquid programming language. You won’t be able to use basic HTML and CSS. Many people hire a Liquid developer. Wix is designed for webmasters with little experience in design. The themes are standard and can be customized easily.

Wix is designed for webmasters with little to no design experience. The themes are standard and should not be customized.

Wix vs Shopify: Pros and Cons

Sometimes it is easier to choose between two eCommerce giants than to compile a list of pros or cons.

Let’s begin by taking a look at Shopify.

Shopify Pros

  • Exquisite range of eCommerce features, including cart recovery.
  • Customers who need extra guidance or assistance are provided with excellent support
  • Amazing knowledge base and tons of community support
  • There are hundreds of payment options available
  • There are endless integrations possible with everything, from social media to dropshipping software.
  • It is easy to use and has a great interface
  • SEO optimized Shopify store

Shopify Cons

  • Sometimes, it’s a little more expensive
  • Premium themes and additional features add up

Wix Pros

  • For beginners, it is very easy to use
  • There are hundreds of templates to choose
  • Immersive checkout experience
  • Affordable pricing
  • Access to apps such as ECwid
  • Great customer support

Wix Cons

  • Small businesses need only enough
  • There is not a lot of extensibility

Wix vs. Shopify: Easy of Use

Wix is designed for non-developers, who are intimidated by complicated interfaces and heavy coding responsibilities. Wix offers useful templates, addons, and a decent drag-and-drop editor to make your pages professional and easy to use.

Part of this “ease-of-use” section is also for developers and anyone who wants to customize their store. Shopify was built for online shops and is extremely easy to use. It’s easy to upload products, manage inventory, and handle customers. Wix is easy to use. However, managing inventory and customers can be difficult.

Wix vs Shopify: Pricing

Wix Pricing

Shopify Pricing

One thing is certain, the Wix pricing can be more confusing than Shopify. But that doesn’t mean you should rule it out.

Setup fees

You will not be charged any setup fees by Shopify or WIX for your first online shop.

Monthly Fees

WIX offers annual plans at a reduced price, but I don’t like this option as you are stuck with WIX for a while. Let’s keep to the monthly fees. WIX is not able to help you start an online shop unless your choose the $17 per monthly ecommerce plan, or the $25/month VIP plan.

Shopify’s Lite Plan is $9/month and the Basic plan $29/month. Shopify’s Starter Plan is the best deal for people just starting out. Shopify also offers eCommerce Wix plans that have no transaction fees and unlimited products. Shopify has more templates so it’s better.

If you are interested in a fully-functional online store, but not available in Shopify Lite Plan, then the $17 WiX Ecommerce plan may be a good choice.

Bandwidth Fees

Both solutions do not charge bandwidth.

Transaction fees

Wix does not charge transaction fees. However, you must consider processing fees for credit cards. Shopify doesn’t charge processing fees if you use the Shopify payments processor. You will have to pay transaction fees if you choose to use PayPal or Authorize.net depending on your plan.

No-cost Trial

Both Wix as well Shopify offer free 14-day trials. If you aren’t sure what to do, I strongly recommend that you quickly open an account with both to see which UX suits you best.

Shopify vs Wix: Customer Support

When you are considering investing in any new tool, it is important to think about how much support you will need. Shopify and Wix offer phone and email support, social media assistance, forums, help centers, and much more.

Shopify offers 24/7 support with live chat support. This is something that Wix can’t offer. Wix offers a lot in-editor support that can help you when you are building. You can access useful information by hovering your mouse over the question mark.

Wix’s built-in help makes it easy to get answers quickly. Wix is able to provide better customer service than Shopify in certain areas. Shopify may provide constant support, but Wix makes it much easier for you to get help.

Shopify vs Wix: Who is the Winner?

Although the Wix Ecommerce plan is pleasant to surprise, it is still hard to recommend it over Shopify. Shopify has been around since long and is focused on online store owners. It’s much easier to create a professional website on the Shopify platform. Wix is a great option, as it doesn’t cost much.
